Sides for Portobello Shroom burgers 9 Months ago
Hello to everyone, we are having a couple over for dinner who dont eat meat. We will be serving Portobello Mushroom Burgers. I cant find anything to make as a side other than fries. Suggestions would really be appreciated. I would really like to figure some way to get protein into this meal, just not sure what would go with the burgers. The couple does not drink wine or any kinda of alcoholic beverage either. Kinda in a pickle on this, tea I suppose. Thanks for your help.

I was thinking about it for you and think a salad mix with fresh blackberries or just berries for garnish and then you had mentioned tea, so I would say blackberry tea or whatever fresh berry salad garnish you used. But I would only use blackberries but you might not have the option. I am confused about the burger tho. How are you serving it?
Then corn on the cob. Just put it in a microwave for 4 mins in the husks or cook on the grill then this might not sound good to people but it is very tasty to put MAYO on the corn ears instead of butter and sprinkle chile spice on them. The mayo makes the corn very juicy. But don't use too much, just enough.

Cornbread salad is very good and better chilled. Just make cornbread and break it up, add fresh diced tomatoes and onions and celery, and mayo just enough to moisten and anything you think goes with it. And mix it. Yum!

Stuffed yellow squash is great. Just get small yellow squash and cut them in half lengthwise and scoop and save the inside. Then rub the squash boats with seasalt and olive oil and I soften them in a micowave. Take the saved squash insides and add bread crumbs, tomatoes and whatever you want. Then bake them til they brown and fork tender.

I hope I helped!

Hi another side i thought of is potato salad instead of fries.Using the small red potatoes with skins on.

You said shroom burger so i assume you mean putting a mushroom on a bun. being a meat eater like i am, that sounds kind of boring unless you have a relish. like a corn or tomato relish.

Another side could be baby tomatoes with white crumbled cheese and olive oil and herbs, or a plate of sliced tomatoes with alternating slices of white cheese and drizzed with olive oil and herbs.

A portabello is used to replace meat so I would make sure that I had things to dress it up on the bun.Otherwise they would just be eating a mushroom on bread. Thats not very exciting. And If you know how you are going to make a mushroom on bread good and tasty then the sides will be more clear.

How about a slice of fried green tomato or eggplant for the burger?
